An unusual film (Lot 1614) featuring the Prussian-German field marshal Paul von Hindenburg, a renowned German hero, and later served as the second President of Germany from 1925 to 1934. He was also responsible for appointing Hitler as Chancellor in 1934.
The film came as part of a collection of mainly 1930s German militaria and ephemera. The film itself came in a film can with the words Hindenburg on. It was thought initially that it would be of the Hindenburg airship. The film is in a very unusual format which is not possible to play in most known projectors.
Stills from the film have been captured (by Anna Draper of the Lincolnshire Echo see picture above) from which we have been able to establish its contents. The rare format of the film and its unique footage will make it one of the highlights of Unique Auctions Fine Antiques & Collectors Sale on Sunday 28th April.
The sale includes a number of other German ephemera items from the 1930s and 1940s. These include collectors card albums, postcards including a series from the 1934 Passion Play (Lot 1617), and autographs and signed pictures of German actors and stars. The collectors cards included a complete collection of 252 cards in album entitles Die Nachkriegszeit 1918-1934 (The Postwar Period) (Lot 1620). The album details the post-war German period and includes the rise of Hitler in the 1930s. There are also 2 complete German Card Albums The Sights of the Earth (Lot 1618) – Die Sehenswürdigkeiten Der Erde Deutsches Reich Olleschau (German Empire) and Die Sehenswürdigkeiten Der Erde Osterreich (Austria).
German and Nazi militaria items include a large 14ft by 10ft (approx) Nazi flag (Lot 1657), a collection of Nazi belt buckles and cap badges.
