Two stunning Mettlach / Villeroy & Boch Plaques numbered 2187 & 2188 feature at Unique Auctions 24th March Fine Antiques & Collectors sale. Both plaques are thought to have been designed by Otto Hupp, who was well known for work in heraldry. Otto Hupp was born in Dusseldorf on the 21st May 1859, and his early work from the 1880s on plaques and steins are highly collectable.
The pair of plaques are known by their numbers 2187 and 2188 and also as the ” Hohenzollern and Hapsburg Plaques “. They measure approx 17 1/2 inches in diameter, have very bright colouring and are in excellent condition. It is rare to find a pair and viewing is highly recommended.
