A Military Cross for Captain H R Yorke and his other WWI medals, related press clippings and papers will be of considerable interest to collectors at Unique Auctions Antiques & Collectors auction on March 29th 2020.
One of the press clippings includes details of acting Captain Yorke’s bravery:
Lieut. (A/ Capt) Harry Roy Yorke, Cheshire Regt, has been awarded the Military Cross for conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. Owing to the troops on the left of the brigade failing to capture their objective, their left battalion suffered heavy casualties. He was ordered to take forward his company to strengthen the left flank. Advancing all the time under extremely heavy fire, he showed great skill in selecting his final position.
The lot also includes other medals, papers and notes.
