London Longcase Striking Clock in a Chinoiserie painted case made by William Ericke
The London Longcase Striking Clock in a Chinoiserie painted case made by William Ericke of Size Lane, London. The Face has a silvered chapter ring with gilded brass spandrels the upper ones featuring Dolphins. He was admitted as a full member of the Clockmakers Company in London in 1730. He died in 1772. Date will be circa 1750. Reference is Page 101 of Watchmakers and Clockmakers of the World – volume 1 – by G.H.Baillie.
Dent of London Inclined Plane Clock
One of the most unusual clocks in the sale is the amazing Dent of London Inclined Plane Clock. The clock was over 30 years ago, and made by the original and legendary maker Dent of London. These mystery clocks are also sometimes referred to as Rolling Drum Clocks.

The Inclined Plane Clock descends the sloped plane, over a period of a week. The jeweled movement, with a platform escapement, never needs winding, as the clock powers itself, principally through the “use” of the power of gravity. This finely crafted Dent clock is a close copy of the one made by the clock’s inventor, Maurice Wheeler, in 1684.

Ebonised Double Fusee Bracket Clock with Pillar Movement
Ebonised Double Fusee Bracket Clock with Pillar Movement with a silvered engraved arch dial bearing the name William Randall Newbury. The large Bracket Clock in an ebonised case,striking on a bell,with a silvered dial – dead beat escapement – with a 5 Pillar movement and engraved back plate is made by William Randall of Newbury,Berkshire. Date will be circa 1800. He is listed as being active as both a Clock and Watch Maker between 1795 and 1812 during George III’s reign. He made a Church Clock with a Cumming’s escapement which is listed in my reference book. Reference is Page 263 of Watchmakers and Clockmakers of the World – volume 1 – by G.H.Baillie.
