A fine 18th Century David Prowting Adam and Eve Grandfather Clock leads an excellent collection of nearly 15 longcase clocks at Unique Auctions 11th Annual New Years auction on January 1st and 2nd 2021.
The clock has a flame mahogany case with reeded canted corners to the trunk and brass reeded columns to the hood. The hood having blind fretwork panel to the arched top and brass caps. The complicated movement is very well made with three automated figures of Adam and Eve picking apples from the tree with a rotating serpent that revolves around the tree. The regulator style large pendulum ensures that time keeping is maintained. The stunning dial has a painted moonphase sub dial and a separate sweep second sub dial with integrated date ring set within this dial.
The sale also includes a number of other handpainted, brass faced and other grandfather clocks.
The auction takes place on January 1st and 2nd 2021 starting at 9am. Viewing is on 31st December 10am-4pm and from 7am on the 1st January (please note viewing is to be confirmed).
