Shoppers were able to discover more than they bargained for at a shopping centre in Lincoln last Saturday as part of an Antique Road Show Event.
Unique Auctions, a local Auction House and Antique Specialist visited St Marks Shopping Centre in Lincoln with their vintage van and a wide range of antiques from dolls and furniture to an antique bike and a collectable pedal plane.
Shoppers were able to learn more about the antiques, have their own items valued free of charge and take part in a fun antiques quiz to test their new found knowledge by valuing the items on display at the centre.
Darryl Kirk of Unique Auctions said “It has been great to come to St Marks and talk to so many people about antiques. We met people from all over Lincolnshire and further afield. Some had come in especially for the Antiques Roadshow, others were just passing the stand and stopped to view and talk.”
“There has been lots of interest in the items on display from people of all ages. In particular the vintage style pedal collectors plane proved to be a draw for everyone. A few of our younger visitors had their pictures taken in the plane. Also on display were a selection of bronzes and especially popular was the collection of vintage gramophones. These attracted scores of visitors and some wonderful stories. One visitor told us of his large collection of 78” records and how he had been collecting all his life and he still continues to collect.”
“We also valued quite a few items for shoppers including some unusual silver including appropriately for Lincolnshire some silver tractors. One of the most interesting items we saw was a collection of poems and stories from British soldiers recovering in a field hospital at the end of World War I. Some of the stories and poems in the book were very moving and it a great piece of war memorabilia. Another lady had bought a painting at a car boot sale for one pound which we expect to sell for nearly £100. It was exciting to see items appear from bags and even the items that were not of significant value had interesting stories behind them. ”
Cormac Hamilton, centre manager at the St Marks added “We were very pleased to welcome Unique Auctions to St Marks.”
“ We had such a positive response from shoppers that Unique Auctions will be returning to the centre on a monthly basis.”
“The Antiques Roadshow, vintage van and display of antiques will be at the centre from 10am to 5pm on the third Saturday of every month. The next visits will be Saturday 15th June and Saturday 20th July. The Unique Auctions team will be delighted to discuss and value any items visitors bring to the event. Visitors can also bring in pictures of items or even just tell us about their items if they cannot manage to bring the items in. “
